Kevin Mazeika
Men's Program Manager/Elite Head Coach

*USA Men's National Team Coordinator & Two-Time Olympic Head Coach*

Kevin Mazeika has built HGA GymMasters into one of the top men's gymnastics programs in the country. Hailing from our own "Space City" Houston, Kevin's competitive gymnastics career ably turned to coaching in 1984. His coaching has led to an impressive array of coaching positions and honors, most recently including leading the 2008 USA Men's Olympic Team to their bronze medal finish in Beijing, China.  Under Coach Mazeika, the 2004 USA Men's Olympic Team took home the silver medal from Athens.

Over the past eight years he has coached at more than 35 international competitions and has been head or assistant coach at 12 international team events. His commitment to gymnastics extends from encouraging, fostering, and developing opportunities for beginning and aspiring young gymnasts in the GymMasters program to building competitive collegiate scholarship and international championship athletes. In addition to winning numerous national and international gymnastics titles and honors, his athletes have garnered coveted gymnastics scholarships at major universities including Stanford, Minnesota, Illinois, Penn State, Oklahoma and Ohio State. As the coach of the USA's most successful World Championship and Olympic teams to date, Coach Mazeika is, according to USA Gymnastics and Inside Gymnastics, "at the top of his profession."

Norimasa Iwai
Junior Men's Head Coach/Elite Coach

Norimasa Iwai recently took over as Head Coach of GymMasters compulsory program.  Coach Nori enjoyed a very successful competition career during the 1990’s-2000’s, culminating in representing Japan at the 2000 Olympics as the men’s gymnastics team captain; the team placed 4th overall, and he received a very respectable 7th place finish on the rings.  As seen from his statistics, coach Nori is an all-around gymnast, at home in many events.  Nori attended Nihon University, where he majored in Physical Education.  Prior to coaching here in the United States, Nori coached for several teams in Japan, where he helped build strong gymnastic programs.  Coach Nori brings new outlooks, excellent coaching skills, and strong discipline-building techniques, along with a good sense of fun, which the boys all enjoy tremendously.

Sam McArthur
Junior Men's Coach

Since joining us in 2007, Coach Sam has developed a strong rapport with all the gymnasts and has already directed them to some impressive wins and accomplishments.  Beginning at Capital Gymnastics in AustinTX under the direction of Marc Yancey and Brandy Wood, Sam holds several state and regional titles both in Region 3 and Region 5.  Although he never competed at the collegiate level, Sam has an aptitude for coaching and stresses the importance of leadership, hard work, and discipline.  His favorite event to coach is floor exercise, teaching control over both body and mind, and he strives to instill an overall love and respect for the sport in all his students.

Sean Townsend
Junior Men's Coach

Townsend2

Fresh out of retirement, Coach Sean Townsend brings GymMasters excellent insight into the world of gymnastics.  Inspired by the 1988 Olympic Games, Sean began gymnastics at the age of 10.  He dreamed of making it to the Olympics, and in 2000 his dream came true when he competed for the United States in Sydney.  Sean has also been a member of three World Championship Teams, including the 2001 World Team where the US team earned an unprecedented silver medal for the United States, and Sean received the first individual gold medal for the U.S. men since 1979 when he became the World Parallel Bars Champion.
